Less than two minutes into the contest, Nic Claxton dunked on Embiid, who fell to the floor trying to contest the shot. After all, the referees arguably botched the two biggest calls of the game. I'm not usually one to harp on officiating, but it'd be pretty tough to talk about this game without mentioning it. Before moving ahead to that game, here's three takeaways from Philly's Game 3 victory. Game 4 between Philadelphia and Brooklyn is set for Saturday afternoon. Embiid was also visibly frustrated throughout the game, and it seemed like Brooklyn's obvious plan of trying to get under his skin worked to an extent. That's obviously something to keep an eye on moving forward, as the Sixers need their big man to be at full health if they're going to make a deep playoff run. MVP candidate Joel Embiid had a relatively quiet game (14 points, 10 rebounds) and he appeared to be hobbling a bit at times throughout the course of the contest. The Sixers haven't swept a postseason series since 1991, so it's safe to say they'll be hungry to try to do so. Their combined production wasn't enough to get Brooklyn a win, though, and now the Nets are just a single loss away from having their season come to an end. Mikal Bridges paced Brooklyn with 26 points, six rebounds and five assists and Spencer Dinwiddie added 20 points and seven assists. Tyrese Maxey led the way for Philadelphia with 25 points, three rebounds and three assists, while James Harden added 21 points, five rebounds and four assists before he was tossed late in the third quarter for elbowing Royce O'Neal in the groin. The game was a wild one that featured a pair of ejections and plenty of drama.ĭown 2-0 and playing in front of their home crowd, the Nets played a desperate brand of basketball that gave the game a hectic, frenetic feel. De’Anthony Melton finally getting on the board with a couple of threes had to feel good, but it was Maxey attacking the rim at full speed that had the Pistons flummoxed. With their 102-97 win over the Brooklyn Nets in Game 3 on Thursday night, the Philadelphia 76ers took a commanding 3-0 lead in the first round series between the two teams. Finally able to capitalize on some momentum, the Sixers began to pull away as the final quarter begun. They finally got five more bench points at the end of the quarter from Jaden Springer and Nico Batum, good enough to help them take a six-point lead into the fourth. Covington was the only bench scorer in the first half and had four steals through three quarters. There were not a ton of bench contributions tonight, but the ones they got mattered.Eight of his 19 free throw attempts tonight were in the third quarter. Embiid had to do the heavy lifting of course. Their offense didn’t quite snap into shape the same way, but the same method that kept them afloat in the first half was good enough to trade scores with the Pistons for much of the quarter.ebrb2JvFHY- Philadelphia 76ers November 11, 2023 This three from Robert Covington was just one of six made field goals in the quarter, as the Pistons took a 12-point lead. The lack of creation is really apparent during these times. He was a part of those “Embiid plus deep bench” lineups that have been closing firsts, and none of those lineups have looked especially great so far this year. as a Sixer, as he last played in the second half of a blowout against the Wizards. It’s probably fair to call this the first real minutes for Marcus Morris Sr.They were so out of sync early they took a five-second violation on an inbound. One of Embiid’s attempts looked more like a pass off the backboard. That allowed the Pistons to get out in front early. The Sixers’ offense looked just as dreadful to start the game, beginning 1-of-7 from the field. The score bug for the tournament looks really good though, so good for NBC Sports Philadelphia for that!.The Sixers white kits plus Detroit’s court made this game feel like when an iPhone involuntarily turns the brightness all the way up. ![]() So it’s not mandatory to wear the city jerseys during the in-season tournament.Tobias Harris was rather efficient however, putting up 24 points shooting 8-of-15 from the field. Joel Embiid didn’t have the most efficient night either, but led all scorers with 33 points and hauled down 16 rebounds. ![]() Tyrese Maxey overcame a rough start to finish with 29 points, five rebounds, four steals, 10 assists and crucially no turnovers. The Sixers improved to 7-1 on the season and 1-0 in in-season tournament group play when they took down the Detroit Pistons 114-106 Friday night.
